2nd April 2024

Our first medal of the season is the Anderson Trophy this coming Saturday 6th April 2024 and it’s fair to say that despite the heavy rainfall in March our course is looking in excellent condition. Our thanks go out to Graeme our Course Manager and his team for their efforts throughout the winter months.

We would just like to take this opportunity to remind all participants that the tee times have been extended to 10-minute intervals. The reason for this is that in a review into the causes of slow play last season we found that players were teeing off from the first tee, when the group ahead appeared at the mound and not waiting until their allocated tee time. This was contributing to them quickly catching the group in front, causing backups in the early stages of the round. (We all know two balls will always catch three balls but it shouldn’t be by the 3rd tee!!!!!!).

We had hoped to have a starter and course Marshall in place for a number of Saturday medals this season, but unfortunately this has not been possible for this Saturday.

In short – Do not tee off until your allocated tee time please.

Can we also remember that it’s our course and with it being a long season we aim to keep it in the best possible condition. Please replace divots, repair pitch marks, and rake bunkers and when necessary, politely challenge others who fail to do so.

Could members also pick up their renewal envelopes from the lounge area. It contains your new 2024 membership sticker to place on your bag tag and the new code to the clubhouse doors. Members should always display their membership tags on the course.

Good luck on Saturday and in all our competitions this year. Let’s have a great season together.

29Th March - clubhouse opening hours

As you all know, our season starts this coming Saturday 30 March, with the Champion of Champions competition, so good luck to all those taking part and we hope the weather is kind. As last year’s champions battle it out, please remember that the course is fully open to the remaining members and guests with tee times available from 10.20am. The bar and catering will be open at 8am for morning breakfast rolls.

It also means that we are moving to our summer clubhouse and bar & catering opening hours which you will find in the attached link below. Over the past few months, the Business Council and our Bar & Catering Manager Jemma MacDonald have been carrying out a review of the service provision. The opening hours are only covering the months of April and May for the moment. They will be reviewed from June onwards when daylight hours are more conducive to late evening golf. We are also delighted to announced that two new menus have been produced and available from Saturday. With the introduction of a snack menu, food will be available to members later in the evening.

You will also notice that the club roof repairs are well on the way, so can I again remind you that as a scaffold tower may be in place at the front entrance to facilitate the work, you are asked to be careful approaching this area.

26th march 2024 - WHS Changes

The World Handicap System (WHS) was first intoduced in 2020 in an attempt to provide a more consistent and inclusive handicapping system for golfers regardless of where they play.  Whilst there were definitely a few teething problems when this was first introduced, most of us have now learned how most of it works.  For 2024, the R&A and USGA have announced an update to WHS as part of an ongoing review of the Rules of Handicapping and Course Rating System, with a number of changes set to come into effect from 1st April.  So if you're getting ready to play golf over the next couple of weeks and you want to make sure you're up to date with all of the new rules, you can read the five most important updates by clicking here

15th March 2024 - CHARITY DONATIONS

Here at Kirkintilloch Golf Club we recognise ourselves as not only a family club , but one which should always endeavour to engage with the local community.   It was therefore our great pleasure on Friday 15th March for our captain Bob Rae to meet with our club's 2023 charities. Bob met with representatives from East Dunbartonshire Food bank , Rookie Minds Mental Health Counselling and Beloved Rabbits at our clubhouse and were presented with the sums of £925 donated to each of our charity partners. Bob was asked by the represenatives of each charity to pass on the message to all our members that our support is greatly appreciated by these charities.

Bob would also like to pass on our thanks to our Social Convenor Dean Stewart for all his hard work throughout last season. In additionhe would also to thank our membership and their friends and families who have repeatedly supported the events that helped to raise the charity money. This season we have already had a great start to our social calendar with what was an excellent Rod Stewart Tribute act and this will be followed on 20 April by the popular club quiz which this year includes Bingo and Play your cards right. So, get a team together and join in the fun.
