With the recent success of our Donald Cameron team in winning Division 1 for the first time in over 40 years, Kirkintilloch have qualified to play in the
Boundary Bell match against the winners of the Brand Putter League (ie North vs South Glasgow). This is a prestigious event and an opportunity for Kirkintilloch to claim the title of “Glasgow
Champions”. The match is played at a neutral venue, which this year is Douglas Park GC in Bearsden.
Unfortunately, the date of this match is the 25th of August, which directly clashes with the scheduled Club Finals day, with no possibility of moving the date. As such, a significant number of players, club officials and members wishing to attend and support the team in the Boundary Bell match, would be conflicted with Finals Day also taking place at the same time.
I’ve consulted across House & Bar, Greens, Ladies & Junior sections, as well as Business Council members for a view on how best to proceed and the consensus reached is that Club Finals Day will be POSTPONED by 1 week to Sunday 1st September. Qualifying and other knockout dates will remain in place as originally scheduled. In pushing back Finals Day by 1 week, it will allow all our finals to be played together (in particular our three Club Championship matches), rather than splitting the Finals over different weekends and undermining Finals Day in itself.
In communicating this decision now, we hope to give members as much notice as is possible of the change, with Finals Day still 7.5 weeks away. A revised copy of the Club Fixture Schedule is available below. Please feel free to get in contact with me should there be any concerns or questions. Any issues that this change causes, which can be reasonably accommodated, will certainly be considered.
One other small change in the diary is to advise that the Gents Stableford scheduled for Saturday 5th of October has been adjusted as the “Greenkeepers Stableford”, with a collection & proceeds being made available to the Greens team for their excellent work across the season – I’m sure many members will be keen to take part and contribute.
